Below you will find a short exert from the book and three endorsements. The book is designed with individuals and small groups in mind. There are handouts and videos that go with each chapter of the book available for free online at the b website.

An excerpt from the preface that express my process, hopes and prayer for those who choose to slowly journey through Discernment, God’s Will & Living Jesus: Christian Discernment as a Way of Life either individually or in a group.

My writing process has consisted of a series of stumbling starts and sizable stops. But God has been gracious, and I have learned much along the way. What you will find written is this book is true to my own life, the lives of those in scripture, and the lives of those I have journeyed with over the years. I do not write this book claiming to be an expert on the topic of Christian discernment. But of this I am certain: God does lead! God’s will is not something that is hidden from us but something God desires that we know and walk in.

If you put the material presented in this book into practice, it will help you to become more sensitive to the communications of God, whether it is a “voice”, the inner promptings of the Spirit, or some other means God uses to communicate WITH you. God has not left you alone to discern God’s leading. God is the one who plays the primary role in Christian discernment. You don’t have to make it happen. You have simply to be open and to follow.

May God use the material in this book to free you to live more fully into and then more fully out of the person God has created you and is calling you to be, so that you may experience more fully the wondrous life intended for you through Jesus’s death, resurrection, and the subsequent gift of the indwelling, always-with-you Spirit.

Discernment, God’s Will & Living Jesus: Christian Discernment as a Way of Life will be available for purchase at amazon.com as a paperback and ebook. See link at bottom of page.

Endorsements:

When I first heard that Larry Warner was working on a book on discernment, I remember thinking that he was the right person for the task. Larry speaks from deep personal and professional authority. Discernment is far more than an interesting topic to him. It has become a way of living. I hope you’ll read this book and respond to this invitation to more fully live Jesus.
~ Alan Fadling, President and Founder Unhurried Living and author of An Unhurried Life

Want help in hearing and recognizing the voice of God? Read this book! Larry Warner knows that God is here and that He is inviting you into something. But: “What is God saying? To what is He calling me? And how do I know it is Him? What does the Holy Spirit sound like and how does He talk to me? What keeps me from hearing from God?” This book helps to answer those questions.

Read the work of a trustworthy, road-seasoned guide who has walked with many followers of Jesus; strong and sturdy words from a wise Ignatian-trained Spiritual Director are found here! Biblical, practical, gritty, and not always comfortable, this book will move you to prayer. Highly recommended.

~ Betsy A. Barber, PsyD, Assc. Director Institute for Spiritual Formation, Talbot School of Theology Director Center for Spiritual Renewal, Biola University

In this thoughtful and winsome book, spiritual director Larry Warner, demonstrates the practical wisdom and heartfelt thinking that makes him such a trustworthy guide. Linking discernment to a “practiced way of life”, Warner connects decision-making to discipleship. Offering both instructions and exercises, Warner draws from the insights of Ignatian Spirituality and his experience of spending countless hours listening to the deepest longings of people. This is a warm, deep, and profoundly helpful book. I’ll be using it with my students and clients.

~ Tod Bolsinger, Vice President for Vocation and Formation, Fuller Seminary and author of Canoeing the Mountains: Christian Leadership in Uncharted Territory.

I believe this is an important book for those who desire to live a God honoring life—a life that will bring greater freedom to live into and out of the person God has called and created you to be and to more fully enter into and experience the abundant life Jesus has provided through his death and resurrection. I hope you may choose to purchase a copy and interact with the material rather than merely read it.
