Formation - Spiritual Rhythm of Life

In Classical writing on the spiritual life the writers talk about the rhythms of consolation and desolation. These are the two major rhythms of the spiritual life. We explore each defining the terms and discovering how your awareness of your rhythm can help you make wise decisions and be prepared to battle the temptations that will come your way. A working knowledge of the roles of consolation and desolation in your life will serve you well as you seek to follow the example of Christ.

Spiritual consolation is experienced when our hearts are drawn toward God. Consolation is the experience a deep connectedness to God. The center of the experience lies in God and not in ourselves. The reverse is true of spiritual desolation. This is felt when our hearts are turned away from God.
